This weekend, Companion, a new romantic thriller releases in theaters. Companion follows Iris and a group of friends as they take a weekend trip to a billionaire's lakeside home. An expected death soon sets off a chain of events that will change everything. I only saw the first trailer of this movie which portrayed this as a dark romantic thriller about a girl being taken hostage and I was very interested to see where this movie was going to go.

This is easily the best movie I have seen this year so far. This movie has nonstop thrills from beginning to end. You can tell right from the beginning that something intense is going to go down but just aren't sure what it is. The movie manages to balance so many different genres so well. The best thing about this movie is all the unexpected twists. A twist is good when it is something that you do not see coming but still holds up in regard to the rest of the movie and this one does it. I think this movie is best enjoyed going in knowing as little as possible. I went in having only seen the first trailer and feel that is the most effective way to see this movie. The 2nd trailer gives away a bit too much. Even if you know the direction the movie is going, I think it is still an interesting story. There are some solid chase aspects to this film, it reminds me a lot of Strange Darling in that regard. Sophie Thatcher is great in the lead of the film. She does a great job of displaying her infatuation with her boyfriend and then is able to switch to fear and anger so quickly when things start to go down. I also thought that this movie was the perfect length at 90 minutes. It doesn't feel rushed nor does it overstay its welcome. It is hard to describe what I liked about this movie without giving it away, but just know that if you like isolated house party gone wrong thrillers, then you will like this movie.

I don't have too many issues with this film. There are a few aspects that have some plot holes that you just have to look past but beyond that, this is a solid thriller.

Overall, this was a very interesting and exciting romantic thriller that did not at all go in the direction I was expecting but was all the better for it.

Score: 8/10 Grade: B+ Recommendation: Check this film out.
