Last weekend, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was released on Netflix. Glass Onion is a sequel to 2019's Knives Out and follows detective Benoit Blanc through another murder mystery. This film takes Blanc to a reclusive billionaire's Greek island where five lifelong friends are invited. When a death occurs on the island, Blanc must determine who the killer was as well as uncover a much larger conspiracy.

As with Knives Out, this film was a lot of fun to watch. There are quite a few funny moments throughout the film with Blanc supplying quite a few funny moments. There is also some humor to be had from all of the other characters through their eccentricities and absurd behaviors. Also, like the last film, this movie delivers a solid mystery and keeps the audience on the edge of their seat, and gives twists and turns up until the very end. The characters we get to spend time with on the island are all very unique. They each bring some fun personality trait or quirk to the group as well as have great chemistry together. While they are all awful people, they are still all written to be very likable and fun to watch. Finally, as Rian Johnson always does in his films, this movie does a great job of subverting expectations. There are several plot points that are very typical for this type of story and premise, however, Rian Johnson plays right into that by making you think it is just going to be the typical event and swerves right at the last second and does something unexpected. That really worked in this film and provided a fresh take on a typical mystery film.

I didn't have a whole lot wrong with this film. I thought it was a very well-done film. The only nitpicks I have are that the flashback sequence went on for a little too long and I felt that the whole ending was a bit too excessive. Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed this film.

Overall, this was another fun mystery film by Rian Johnson. It delivers humor as well as fun characters and a compelling story. It may not be as good as the original film, but it is still a solid addition to the series.

Score: 8.5/10 Grade: A- Recommendation: Check it out
