At the end of August, Me Time was released onto Netflix. Me Time follows stay-at-home dad, Sonny Fisher (Kevin Hart) as he gets some time to himself while his wife and kids are away. With his alone time, he reconnects with an old friend (Mark Wahlberg) for a wild weekend.

Overall, this film was good enough. It kept me entertained for two hours and made me laugh. There were quite a few funny moments that made me laugh throughout the film. Kevin Hart, as always is very funny along with Mark Wahlberg. Additionally, a lot of the side characters were pretty funny, with the Uber driver specifically, stealing every scene she was in. There were also a couple scenes that had some sweet moments in them. In general, it was just some cheap entertainment.

Aside from the movie being funny and light on tone, this film does not have a lot going for it. It does enough to make for a passable comedy but doesn't quite reach the point of good. The main issue is that the movie is remarkably bland in that there was not a whole lot that stood out in the film. The film also had trouble deciding what its central conflict was going to be and never really commits to a singular plot thread. There are a few different conflicts throughout the film, but none really stood out as the driving force of the film. The main conflicts include Sonny and his wife's business partner, Sonny learning to have a life outside of his kids, and Huck's money problems. None of them really take center stage to create a central narrative. Along the same lines, the plot does nothing to offer any growth to Sonny. He is the same person at the end of the film as at the start as there was nothing throughout the film causing him to really grow or change. There were also some issues humor-wise, with the movie at times going for some very low-brow humor. There were a couple moments in the film that randomly had a poop or fart joke in them that just felt out of place and that the movie was just going for lazy humor. Finally, on the technical side, there were a few CGI and camera shots that looked pretty rough and felt like just an odd choice.

In the end, this is a good enough comedy that entertains but lacks any sort of substance. It is a movie that won't let you be bored but will be something you forget shortly after watching it.

Score: 5/10 Grade: C Recommendation: Watch it once if you already have Netflix

R Rating disclaimer: This movie is rated R for language. However, the F words are few and far between so it should be fine for someone who doesn’t like to hear that.
