After months of delays Sony's Morbius finally released in theaters at the beginning of May. Morbius follow Dr. Michael Morbius as he attempts to cure himself of a rare disease but instead turns himself into a vampire. He must soon find a way to counteract the affects to prevent cravings of human blood.
Unfortunately this movie is not very good. The characters are underdeveloped and the story is just chopped to pieces to the point where the final product doesn't have much of a coherent plot. The is really no driving conflict in the movie as the main villain is just off doing his own thing and just showing up at random times. The main focus seems to be on Dr. Morbius trying to find a cure for himself but the way that story is told is just not interesting and does not work. The relationships between the characters are so underdeveloped that you don't care when some of the characters close to Morbius die as the movie did not showcase the relationship. There are also quite a few characters that were meaningless to the story, specifically the two cops and Dr. Nicholas. Those characters added nothing to the story and were given nothing meaningful to do. The plot itself is just chopped to pieces and the structure is just really off. It seems like Sony just trimmed off 30 minutes of the movie at random just to make for a shorter film. The villain also really has no motivation to do what he is doing. He is basically killing people for the sake of killing people and to antagonize Morbius which does not make for a good villain. Another issue is the Morbius's powers are really unclear as to what he can do and why he knows how to do it. For example, about halfway through the movie, he just randomly learns that he can fly without any explanation as to how he figured this out. I is also really unclear as to if he can control his powers. When he explains, he says he cannot control them but when he is fighting it seems like he can control them just fine. There is no logic or effort behind having his powers make sense. Finally, the trailers were really misleading about the film. The trailers made sure showcase Michael Keaton reprising his role as the vulture in every single trailer. However, in the actual film, he does not show up until the mid credits and doesn't even show the scenes that were in the trailer. That just seems really cheap of Sony to market him and not even put him in the actual story and really left me feeling sour about the film.
Overall, Morbius was a massive failure, with misleading trailer and a story that was chopped to pieces once again proving that the Spiderman universe would be better off in the hands of Marvel and Disney.
Grade: D+ Score:4/10 Recommendation: Skip it

Love the thorough honesty! Why didn't you give it an E?
