With November at an end, it is time to share my thoughts and ranking of the November new releases that I saw. I managed to see 6 new film with multiple of them being movies I was very excited about. It was also fun to see a couple of franchises return to the big screen after a few years like Now You See Me and Predator. There were also quite a few larger scale films this month in Now You See Me 3, Predator: Badlands, The Running Man, and Wicked. This was also a very positive month for me with not really having any bad movies. With all that said, here are my thoughts and ranking of the 6 new releases that I saw.
6. Now You See Me: Now You Don't

Now You See Me: Now You Don't is the newest film in the Now You See Me franchise and, in my opinion, the weakest. It was fun to see this cast of characters together again after almost 10 years. They are just as charming as ever and bring the same amount of fun. I also found the new, younger magicians to be a solid addition to the story. I like the generational gap that goes on between the two groups and how they compete while also learning from each other. There were also a few fun sequences in the film, like the Eye Estate fight and the diamond heist. This movie was just a lot of fun and a solid crowd-pleaser. What made this movie be a bit lower is that it just lacked the essence that the other films in the franchise had. This movie had fewer magic aspects to it. There were a couple of sequences, but it wasn't as interwoven as the other two films. I also felt that the movie was too short for the size cast it had. Nobody really got enough time to have their moment. There were small things here and there, but it didn't feel like any of the characters had any breathing room. Overall, while it may be the weakest of the franchise, I still had fun with this movie.
Score: 7/10 Grade: B
5. Wicked: For Good

Wicked: For Good is the big musical release of the year. This movie has just as great a production value as the first film. All of the sets feel real and lived in, with practically built sets instead of CGI. I also liked how this movie tied into the original Wizard of OZ movie, as it brings in origin stories for the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion. I thought that Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were just as good as ever, giving more mature performances than the first film, making them stronger. However, I felt that this film dropped off quite a bit from the first film. This film lacks the fun and whimsy of the first film, as it is much darker. It also doesn't have any memorable songs other than For Good. I also felt that it took quite a bit of time to get going with the first hour of the film, which felt quite slow. In the end, I thought this film had great production value, performances, and a basic story, but it lacks any of the memorable songs and momentum to make me love it as much as the original film.
Score: 7.5/10 Grade: B
4. Predator: Badlands

Predator: Badlands is the newest film in the Predator franchise. I appreciate that this movie takes things in a different direction. Instead of having another movie with humans fighting a predator, this movie sets the main character as The Predator and follows him on a journey to hunt his first creature. I like how the movie gives us a deeper look into the Predator culture and humanises the Predator, Dek, as he attempts to earn a place in his tribe. I also like how this movie adds a bit of a found family to it, which adds a bit of a sweet touch to what could have been a grim movie. In addition to being a found family story, the movie is also a bit of a coming-of-age story as we see Dek grow as a stronger hunter. The main thing that keeps this film low is that I didn't think the Elle Fanning character fit into the movie. She has too much of a jokey personality and feels out of place. I didn't mind having the synthetic character in the movie, but I would have preferred her to be a little more serious to make the rest of the film. In the end, this was a fun new Predator story that adds something different, but still has some tonal inconsistencies that keep it down.
Score: 8/10 Grade: B+
3. Frankenstein

Frankenstein is the newest film from Guillermo Del Toro. This film looks visually great with mostly practical sets. It is nice to see a movie that has large-scale sets like this. I liked the overall Gothic aesthetic of the movie, and it perfectly matched the time period in which it was set. Both Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi were great in the film. Oscar Isaac did a great job of pulling off this arrogance and pride that you need from Doctor Frankenstein, as well as his transition into more of a villain. Jacob Elordi was created as the creature and was able to do so much physically with very limited dialogue. His performance does a great job at humanising The Creature and portraying him as the real victim of the story. What keeps this movie out of the top spot is that it was a bit too long. The original book is not long at all, and I think a 2.5-hour movie was a bit much. I think it could have trimmed a bit in the first half of the story.
Overall, this is a great, visually stunning movie with great performances, but it was just a bit too long to be the best on the list.
Score: 8.5/10 Grade: A-
2. Zootopia 2

Zootopia 2 is the newest film from Walt Disney Animation. I was pleasantly surprised with this film as I found it to be just as good as the original film. This movie feels like a classic buddy cop action film that can entertain both kids and adults. Since the characters are already established, the movie can jump right into the case. The movie is full of action sequences, car chases, and investigations, all things that fans of the cop genre will love. I also found this movie to be incredibly funny, with jokes and references for both kids and adults. The movie also does a great job of expanding on the world by introducing a marshland and a reptile land. The movie also tackles some new ideas about the importance of communication and understanding each other, helping it not feel like a rehash of the first film. Overall, this was a great animated film and a lot of fun for both kids and adults.
Score: 8.5/10 Grade: A-
1. The Running Man

The Running Man is the newest film from Edgar Wright. This movie brings Edgar Wright's style to the dystopian action genre. I thought the general premise and story were very interesting. The movie does a great job of giving us this world with such a deep divide between the Network and the working-class people. I thought Glen Powell was great in this movie. His performance here shows that he can carry a blockbuster type of movie and is on his way to becoming a big name star. As with the other Edgar Wright films, this movie has a lot of energy and a rocking soundtrack. It also delivers a lot of exciting and pretty unique action sequences, as well as brings the perfect tone with this type of story. I also liked how fast the story moves. This is the longest of Edgar Wright's films at over 2 hours, but it flies by so quickly. I had a lot of fun with this movie. It does feel like the most restrained of Edgar Wright's films. The others have this edge to them, and this one just doesn't. In some aspects, it feels like any director could have made it. However, even a more generic movie from Edgar Wright is still a very good movie. Overall, this movie was a lot of fun, and not only is it the best movie of the month but also one of my favorites of the year.
