This weekend, Plane released in theaters. Plane follows airline pilot, Brodie Torrance, (Gerard Butler) as he has to do an emergency landing during a storm. The plane and its passengers find themselves on an island run by dangerous rebels. When the passengers are taken hostage, Brodie must team up with convict Louis (Mike Colter) to rescue the passengers and escape the island. This movie sparked my interest as it is an action movie and stars Luke Cage (Mike Colter). I watched him in the Marvel TV show and was looking forward to seeing him in something else.

This movie was entertaining enough. It delivers what you would expect from an action-B movie. Several of the action sequences were fun to watch, specifically the escape scene at the end. I thought the sequence on the plane at the beginning was the best part of the film. I thought it delivered the suspense and thrill of the plane having to travel through a storm and find a safe place to land. I also liked how simple the story was. It doesn't spend much time on characters or backstories and gets right into the action. The film movies at a brisk pace from beginning to end and doesn't really let up until the credits roll.

While I was never bored, there really wasn't a whole lot to this movie. It feels like a very generic action movie. It doesn't have any sort of fun characters or any memorable action sequences. It is the type of movie that keeps you entertained for 100 minutes but then forget about it an hour after you saw the film. The characters are all pretty lackluster. The movie doesn't spend any time letting you get to know the characters or explaining why you should care about them. Also, none of them really have any chemistry together or have any sort of notable personality. Both Louis and Brodie are rather dull and don't have anything that really makes them memorable. Along the same lines, there really isn't any sort of growth or character arc going on, and nothing to show that the journey had any impact.

Overall, while the movie wasn't terrible, it wasn't good either. It didn't do anything bad but also didn't do anything to make it stand out either. In the end, it is a passable action movie that one would expect from a January release.

Score: 6/10 Grade: C+ Recommendation: Wait and stream
