This Wednesday, the finale to season 2 of The Bad Batch premiered on Disney+. The Bad Batch is a new TV show set in the world of Star Wars in between the events of episodes 3 and 4. It follows an elite group of clones named Clone Force 99 that fled from the empire after the execution of Order 66. It is made by the same people that did The Clone Wars and follows the same animation style. I enjoyed the first season a lot and was really looking forward to where season 2 went.
I really enjoyed this season. The Clone Wars is one of my favorite Star Wars TV shows and this show just feels like a continuation of that. One of the best things about this show is the team itself. Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo, and Omega are all really fun to watch, each with their own defining trait and fun aspect they bring to the team. I also liked how this season's main story was about the retirement of clones after the war. It really fills in the gaps between the clone trooper army of the republic and how it becomes the stormtrooper army of the empire. Everything that has been shown up to this point has made sense and is quite compelling. I also really enjoyed how we get to see other aspects of the empire and how their armies run. The Crosshair episodes really provide a great point of view into the workings of the new empire. I also liked how the show dives into the details of cloning and its uses for the empire. I thought it was a really interesting addition to add to the show. Finally, I thought the action in these episodes was really fun. There were quite a few episodes that had great storylines with exciting missions.
However, there are a few things that hold this show back for me. One of the main issues is that the show struggled to stay focused on Clone Force 99. Several episodes did not have them ever show up. I feel that a show called The Bad Batch, its episodes should include The Bad Batch. I also thought that some of the in-between episodes were a bit inconsequential and didn't add much to the story. Most of the episodes were quite good, there were just a few filler episodes that weren't up to par with the rest. Finally, I felt that the team stopping at Sid's place in the last episode, didn't make a whole lot of sense after what previous episodes set up, especially since it causes the episode to end in a cliffhanger. If they wanted a cliffhanger ending, the choices leading up to it really should have made more sense.
Overall, this is a great show and a solid second season. Other than a few minor issues, I felt that the season is another good addition to the Star Wars universe.
Score: 8/10 Grade: B+ Recommendation: Check the show out if you are a Star Wars fan
