This weekend, The Killer, the newest film from David Fincher, was released on Netflix. The Killer follows a hired assassin after a hit on a target goes wrong. The assassin soon finds himself in battle against his employer on a manhunt he says isn't personal. I am a big of David Fincher and have enjoyed almost all of his other movies. Naturally, this movie was one of my most anticipated of the fall.

I really liked this movie. David Fincher is a master at making very tense yet exciting thrillers and this film is no exception. This movie is a very simple story that takes you into the mind of a killer. We get to follow this man as he travels from place to place and see what he does. This movie also adds a unique perspective by giving us voiceovers from the main character so we actually get to hear what he is thinking. I really enjoy how simple this story is. It is very streamlined with no side plots. We are introduced to the killer and do not leave his side until the movie is done. While the movie is very simple, it is also extremely thrilling as you feel anxious until his mission is done. Michael Fasbender gives a great performance as the killer. He plays this calm yet calculating persona so well. I also enjoyed the globetrotting aspect of the film. Each sequence is essentially its own city and it is just so cool to see the story hop from place to place. I also liked how the story was structured. It is paced as more chapter-like where each chapter has a person the killer is trying to take out in a new location. It helped add some variety to a simple concept. Finally, I like how we essentially just got a simple revenge story yet David Fincher manages to make it something more.

There isn't very much I have an issue with in this film. It does feel a little limited by its budget. I felt like some moments weren't as big as they could have been. Ultimately, while this film is very well done, it just doesn't reach the highs that I expect from Fincher.

Overall, this is a very well made simple story that tells a compelling story with an interesting lead. It isn't a top-tier Fincher film but by any other standards that still makes it a very good movie.

Score: 8.5/10 Grade: A- Recommendation: Check it out
