Back in June, The Man From Toronto was released onto Netflix. The Man From Toronto follows screw up, Teddy (Kevin Hart) as he is mistaken for the deadly assassin known as The Man From Toronto (Woody Harrelson). To save his life, Teddy must work together with The Man From Toronto and help him complete his mission.

This movie was a lot funnier than expected. Kevin Hart is always great in these types of roles with his over-the-top reactions. The scenes where Teddy has to act like the intimidating assassin are extremely funny. Teddy is not an intimidating guy, but it is just funny to see the reactions of the hit men that work with him where they know the reputation of The Man from Toronto but are so confused based on how Teddy is acting. The interrogation scenes are a great example of this and are easily the funniest parts of the film. The overall premise of the film is also pretty interesting. Having a normal guy pose as an assassin is a really intriguing premise and draws the audience in right away.

Unfortunately, the movie doesn't quite live up to the potential of its premise. While it is still very entertaining and can be funny, it is shockingly generic and doesn't do a whole lot to make it original. The jokes are funny but not funny enough to be memorable, The chemistry between Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson is nothing to write home about, and the story itself is not all that memorable. Another issue is that the plot doesn't seem to know where to be focused. It seems like there is a lot of jumping around between what the goals and who the antagonist is. At one point, Teddy is working with the CIA to catch the criminals but the story seems to forget about them until the end of the movie. It is also difficult to know who to route for because you want Teddy to be safe but you don't exactly want them to complete the mission either as it would cause mass destruction. Finally, there are some pretty bad CGI shots in some of the action scenes. At some points, it is pretty obvious a green screen is used while at other times the action looks like a video game cut scene.

Overall, this is an entertaining enough film with an interesting premise, but has too many plot issues and makes the movie too generic to really live up to the potential of the story.

Score: 6/10 Grade: C+ Recommendation; Worth Streaming Once
