This weekend, The Marvels, the newest film in the MCU releases in theaters. The Marvels follows Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan as their powers become entangled when a new threat to the universe emerges. The trio must learn to work together to stop this threat and save the universe. Captain Marvel wasn't my favorite MCU film but regardless I am always interested in the next entry in the MCU

This movie was an unashamedly silly entry in the MCU. There are so many goofy and over-the-top moments that make this movie very fun to watch. This isn't the funniest entry in the MCU but it is definitely one of the campiest. The movie was also able to have a lot of fun with the body-swapping sequences which led to some cool action moments and some funny sequences. Easily the best part of this movie was Kamala Khan and her family. They just bring such a unique energy to the MCU and Kamala manages to have great chemistry with everyone she is on screen with. It was just really funny to see a teenage girl's perspective on big universe-threatening events. I also liked the villain that they put in this film. We are given a villain that actually has solid motivation as she is just trying to save her world. Finally, I liked how the movie was able to move at a very brisk pace. It doesn't really let up at all and just tells a very simple story.

However, there are a few significant things that I take issue with. I found the plot and storyline to be incredibly messy. Most of the time, the story is just jumping around from place to place and never really developing a cohesive compelling story. We also don't get to see a lot of growth for any of our characters. They are essentially the same as when they entered the movie. I also felt the movie was a little too rushed. While I appreciate that it moved at a fast pace, I felt it was a little too face and never really gave much time for the story to breathe. I think the movie should have spent more time on the relationship of the three main characters instead of just one scene and then rushing off to the next action sequence.

Overall, while the movie was very silly and fun, the plot itself is a bit of a mess that ends up producing a mediocre movie. This is probably a bottom-tier film MCU for me.

Score: 6.5/10 Grade: B- Recommendation: For MCU fans only.
