With March at an end, it is time to share my thoughts and ranking of all of the newly released movies that I saw in March. I managed to see 6 new films this month, with 4/6 being horror movies. I was very happy with the movie output this month. While there were a few bad ones that I didn't like, March also had several very good movies, with one that will probably be in my top 5 of the year. With all of that said, here are my thoughts and ranking of the 6 new releases that I saw.

6. The Bride!

The Bride is the worst and most disappointing movie I saw this month. For the positives, I thought it had a unique style to it, taking place in the 1920s in Chicago and NYC. I also thought the two leads, Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, were very good. The movie also had a lot of elements that reminded me of the two Joker films, both good and bad. However, a lot about this movie just didn't work. I thought the subplot with Mary Shelly trying to possess The Bride was super weird and didn't fit at all in the story. The movie also can't commit to whether it wants to be an allegory about domestic violence or not, as The Bride goes on a bit of a raid for social justice, but then drops it halfway through. The movie also can't decide if it wants The Bride to be an empowering independent woman or a side piece defined as just the wife of Frankenstein. In the end, this movie makes a lot of bold choices, which I can respect, but just hardly any of them land.

Score: 5.5/10 Grade: C

5. Scream 7

Unfortunately, the newest Scream is one of the worst movies of the month and year. There are a few positives. The Scream movies all have this fun sense of charm and metacommentary, and this one is no exception. It's also fun to see Sidney return as the lead in a new phase of life with a daughter. However, the overall story and logic are lacking. There are too many lapses in logic in this film. Many moments make you question where the police are. Several scenes take place in downtown, but there are no police to be seen. It makes no sense. The movie also fails to handle the relationship between Sidney and her daughter effectively. They have a strained relationship until the movie no longer needs it. The killer in this movie is probably the worst in the franchise. Their motivation is convoluted and doesn't make sense. The killer gives a long monologue, but the words mean nothing. Overall, this was a very disappointing film. Despite some good moments, it fell short of the rest of the franchise.

Score: 5.5/10 Grade: C

4. Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come

Ready or Not: Here I Come is the newest film from Radio Silence. This movie takes the fun of the original Ready or Not and goes bigger with the characters and action, as well as expands the lore introduced in the original film. I liked all of the new characters that this movie introduces from families all around the world, as they bring more unique fighting styles to the story. The movie also has a lot of fun kills, with the washing machine kill being a rather unique one. I also liked how the movie added a new character for Grace to work with in her sister, as it gives a new relationship to explore. The movie was also very well paced, with not many slow points or lulls in the action. However, I did think that the whole relationship between the two sisters was poorly executed. It's just all over the place with whether their issues are resolved. Every time it stops to work through their issues just feels extremely forced and is the weakest part of the movie. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this film, and while certain aspects didn't land, it was still a good dark comedy horror film.

Score: 7.5/10 Grade: B

3. Hoppers

Hopper is the newest Pixar movie and was a very sweet and fun family film. This movie feels a bit closer to classic Pixar, taking a crazy premise and turning it into a relatable story. I liked the environmentalist message about saving nature and taking care of animals, as well as the story about a girl trying to make a difference in the world and preserve the memory of her Grandma. I liked all of the cute animal moments and found this movie to have a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. As with other Pixar movies, Hoppers manages to hit you in the feels and almost makes you cry. The main thing keeping this movie out of the top spot was that the message became a little unclear at the end of the story. It loses a bit of its save nature message at the end. I also thought that the movie got a bit dark at times, which may frighten some young kids. In the end, this is a very sweet movie, and while not as good as some of the Pixar classics, it does feel closer to old Pixar.

Score: 8/10 Grade: B+

2. They Will Kill You

They Will Kill You is the second movie about a girl who is trapped in a large complex fighting a cult that is trying to kill her that released this month. However, I enjoyed this movie a lot more than Ready or Not: Here I Come. This movie is very much action-centered with lots of severed limbs and spraying blood. The action style is very reminiscent of Kill Bill, which is one of my favorite movies, and Quentin Tarantino, one of my favorite directors. It also has a unique shooting style and imagery similar to that of early Sam Raimi on Evil Dead 2, with fast zooming in to someone’s eyes and very unusual and twisted images. They Will Kill You also moves at a very brisk pace, which I can appreciate. Less than 10 minutes into the movie, we are already chopping off limbs and spraying blood, and it just gets crazier from there. I just wish we could have gotten a longer movie with this stuff in it. The only "drawback" is that the movie does have a noticeably smaller budget, and you can feel that with some of the CGI and lack of additional bodies in the building. However, when you are watching a B horror film, you just look past that. Overall, this was a very fun horror movie that borrows aspects from some of my favorite movies and directors.

Score: 8/10 Grade: B+

1. Project Hail Mary

Project Hail Mary is my favorite movie of the month and will likely be in my top 5 of the year. I thought that this movie was great. It combines all the things I love: science fiction, aliens, buddy movies, and comedy, all rolled into one film. The movie does a great job of incorporating real science aspects without bogging the narrative down with overly complicated scientific explanations. It doesn't dumb things down, but also doesn't dump tons of information on you either. I really liked all the humor in this movie. Ryan Gosling excels at conveying simple ideas in a way that makes them incredibly funny. I thought the relationship between Ryland and Rocky was super sweet. The movie does a great job of portraying the growing relationship between these two, which eventually leads to some very emotional moments. The special effects in this movie were also really great. It was shot by the same guy who did Dune and features a lot of sweeping shots of space. I also liked how the movie reveals information about Ryland's past gradually, rather than dumping a bunch of exposition at once. Overall, this was a fantastic movie that I hope will do very well and will likely be one of my favorites of the year.

Score: 9.5/10 Grade: A
