This weekend, Totally Killer, a new slasher film from Amazon, was released on Amazon Prime Video. Totally Killer essentially mashes Back to the Future together with a slasher film. It follows teenager Jamie, as she accidentally travels back in time to stop a killer from murdering her mom's friends. This film is in the same vein as Happy Death Day, which I enjoyed, so I was hoping to enjoy this film as well.

I had a lot of fun with this movie. The trailers sold me on the premise and the movie itself did not disappoint. It takes the basic premise from Back to the Future where a modern-day teen travels in time and meets their high school-aged parents and turns it into a slasher film. I thought the story was really fun. The movie does a great job of addressing how a modern-day teenager would react to a less politically aware era. It leads to a lot of funny moments with her reactions and trying to fit in. I thought the slasher side of the story had a nice whodunnit element to it where Jamie and her friends are trying to figure out who the killer is. The movie also does a fairly decent job of handling the time travel logic. It essentially utilizes a similar logic to Avengers Endgame where changing the future doesn't impact anything to you, but just creates a new future to return to. It also adds an interesting aspect by showing things in the future changing in real time such as people suddenly remembering events or a poster changing. I also enjoyed the movie's references to other time travel stories and how they try to use them to explain things. Finally, I thought the slasher action was well done. It incorporates some 80s elements into the kills and keeps things very suspenseful.

This movie is obviously not the greatest movie ever made. It is unashamedly campy and goofy but it is still so much fun to watch. The biggest issue I had was that the ending reveal wasn't as satisfying as it should have been. I also thought the cultural difference could have utilized a little better throughout the film. The way it currently is, comes across a bit annoying at times.

Overall, this is a very fun movie that achieved exactly what it was going for. It was a fun take on the Back to the Future premise and probably about as close to a remake as we will get.

Score: 8/10 Grade: B+ Recommendation: Check this film out.
