Unveiling the Hottest Movie and TV Releases for Summer 2026

With summer movie season amping up, it is time to share an overview of the movies and TV shows that are releasing over the next four months. This summer features a lot of movies from high-profile franchises and actors (we get a new movie from Stephen Spielberg and Christopher Nolan in the same summer).

The Devil Wears Prada 2: This is a big movie for Sarah this summer. This is the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 original and sees Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) reunite to face off against former assistant, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt). The Devil Wears Prada 2 will release on May 1st.

Deep Water: This is the other movie released at the beginning of May. Deep Water is a new disaster shark movie that follows a group of passengers on a plane that has to make an emergency landing in shark-infested water. This movie is probably going to be complete nonsense, but while the ladies are watching Devil Wears Prada 2, at least there will also be a movie for the fellas. Deep Water will release on May 1st.

The Sheep Detectives: This is a new murder mystery movie, but with sheep. The Sheep Detectives follow a group of sheep on a farm that attempts to solve the murder of their loving farmer (Hugh Jackman). This movie features a fun cast and looks to be just a fun family movie. The Sheep Detectives will release on May 8th.

Mortal Kombat 2: This is the big video game adaptation this summer. Mortal Kombat 2 follows fan favorite champions, including Johnny Cage, as they are pitted against each other to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn and protect the existence of Earth. Mortal Kombat 2 will release on May 8th

In the Grey: This is the new Guy Ritchie movie and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, and Eiza Gonzalez. The movie follows a covert team of operatives that is sent to steal a billion-dollar fortune from a ruthless despot. The impossible heist soon turns into an all-out war of strategy, deception, and survival. In the Grey will release on May 15th.

Obsession: This is a new horror movie that has been a hit at festivals. Obsession follows a young romantic who makes a wish that his crush will love him. While he gets what he asked for, he soon learns that the wish comes at a dark price. Obsession will release on May 15th.

The Mandalorian and Grogu: This is the first Star Wars film to release in 7 years. The Mandalorian and Grogu continue the story of The Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu as they embark on a new adventure in the Star Wars universe. I am cautiously optimistic about this. I love a Star Wars movie, but don't just want a feature-length episode of the show. The Mandalorian and Grogu will release on May 22nd.

The Breadwinner: This is a new family comedy starring Nate Bargatze. The Breadwinner follows a husband who becomes a stay-at-home dad after his supermom wife lands a Shark Tank deal. After the switch, he struggles to adapt to the life of a stay-at-home dad with his three daughters. The Breadwinner will release on May 29th.

Spider-Noir: This is a new Spider-Verse TV show starring Nicholas Cage. Spider-Noir follows a down-on-his-luck private investigator as he grapples with his past life as 1930's New York one and only superhero. This is one of my most anticipated TV shows of the year. Spider-Noir will stream on May 27th on Amazon Prime.

Power Ballad: This is a new music drama starring Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd. Power Ballad follows washed-up wedding singer, Rick, after he bonds with Danny, a fading boy band star, over a late-night jam session. When Rick learns that Danny stole his song and turned it into a hit, he sets out on a mission to reclaim the recognition he feels he deserves. Power Ballad will release on June 5th.

Masters of the Universe: This is the newest 80s nostalgia remake. Masters of the Universe follows a young man on Earth as he discovers he has a secret legacy as a prince of an alien planet and must recover a magic sword to protect his kingdom and become He-Man. Masters of the Universe will release on June 5th.

Disclosure Day: This is the newest Steven Spielberg film. Disclosure Days stars Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor and appears to be a science fiction thriller about a new alien invasion. There are not many plot details about this movie yet. This is one of my most anticipated films of the year and feels like classic Spielberg in the vein of movies like War of the Worlds, ET, and Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind. Disclosure Day will release on June 12th.

Scary Movie VI: This is the newest entry in the early 2000s parody franchise. Scary Movie VI sees the return of Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell as she is once again caught up in mayhem involving killers, monsters and supernatural creatures. This movie looks like it will parody a lot of modern horror including films that came out less that year before this movie's release and I don't know how that is possible. Scary Movie VI will release on June 12th.

Toy Story 5: This is the newest Pixar film and an addition to the long-running Toy Story franchise. Toy Story 5 sees Bonnie's toys go against Bonnie's new Lily Pad as it threatens to put an end to playtime. Toy Story 5 will release on June 19th.

Supergirl: This is the second film in the DCU. Supergirl follows Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin also known as Supergirl, as she joins forces with an unlikely companion on a space journey of vengeance against the people who hurt her dog. Supergirl will release on June 26th.

The Bear Season 5: This is the final season of the hit Hulu TV show. The Bear Season 5 will finish up the story of Carmy and his team as they work to make their fine dining restaurant profitable. The Bear Season 5 is expected to stream in June on Hulu.

House of the Dragon Season 3: This is the newest season of the Game of Thrones prequel show. House of the Dragon Season 3 continues the war that was started at the end of season 2 as the Targaryens fight over who should sit on the Iron Throne. House of the Dragon Season 3 will release sometime in June on HBO Max.

Minions and Monsters: This is the new film in the Despicable Me franchise. Minions and Monsters follows the Minions as they go on a journey to find scary creatures to be a part of their new monster movie. This will probably be another big hit for kids and hopefully doesn't restart the Gentleminions movement. Minions and Monsters will release on July 1st

Moana: This is the newest live-action remake from Disney. Moana is the remake of the 2016 movie (yes, sadly Disney is now remaking movies that are less than 10 years old) and tells the story of an island princess who sets out to find a demigod to help save her homeland. I think it is really stupid that they are making this movie when the original is not even 10 years old. Moana will release on July 10th.

The Odyssey: This is my most anticipated movie of the year and the newest film from Christopher Nolan. The Odyssey is an epic retelling of the story of Odysseus as he takes the dangerous journey back to Ithaca. This movie features Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, John Bernthal, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Mia Goth, and Elliot Page, and looks absolutely awesome. The Odyssey will release on July 17th.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day: This is the newest Spider-Man film and the first MCU movie of the year. Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues the story of Peter Parker after everybody loses their memories of him as he navigates post-high school life as a full-time Spider-Man. This movie will also feature The Punisher, Bruce Banner, and the return of Scorpion. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will release on July 31st

One Night Only: This is a new, small romantic comedy starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner. One Night Only follows two New Yorkers as they search for love on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal. One Night Only will release on August 7th.

The End of Oak Street: This is a new adventure thriller starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. The End of Oak Street follows a normal suburban family who finds that their whole street has been transported into a prehistoric jungle. The End of Oak Street will release on August 14th.

Mutiny: This is a new Jason Statham action thriller because you can't go a year without getting at least one of these. Mutiny follows Cole Reed as he is forced to go on the run after witnessing his billionaire industrialist boss being murdered. Mutiny will release on August 21st.

Coyote Vs. Acme: This is a live-action Looney Tunes adjacent film that has a crazy. Coyoto Vs. Acme follows Wile E Coyote as he hires a lawyer to sue the ACME corporation after all of his products backfire on him. This movie was initially shelved, even though it was completed by WB's idiot CEO David Zaslav for a tax write-off, but was eventually saved by another distributor. Coyote Vs. Acme will release on August 28th.

Cliffhanger: This is a remake of the Sylvester Stallone vehicle of the same name and stars Lily James and Pierce Brosnan. Cliffhanger follows a mountain guide and his daughter as a tragic event forces them to confront dangerous foes that emerge. Cliffhanger will release on August 28th.

Lanterns: This is the second TV show in the DCU. Lanterns follows Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, and new recruit, John Stewart, as two intergalactic cops who investigate a mystery in the American heartland. From the trailer, this gives me True Detective vibes but with superheroes. Lanterns will release sometime in August on HBO Max.
