Fall and Winter 2025 Must-See Movie and TV Show Releases

With the year being in its final third, I wanted to share a look ahead at some of the larger upcoming TV shows and movie releases. This covers the months of September through the end of the year. As usual, it would be impossible to cover everything that is releasing this fall, but this at least gives a good look at most of the major releases that caught my attention.

September

The Paper: This is a new show set in the universe of The Office: The Paper follows the same documentary team that focused on Dunder Mifflin as they find a new subject in a dying Midwestern newspaper. The Paper will release on Peacock on September 4th.

Only Murders in the Building Season 5: This is the newest season of the hit show on Hulu. Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building continues the story of tenants Charles, Mabel, and Oliver as they investigate the newest murder in their building. Only Murders in the Building Season 5 will release on Hulu on September 9th.

The Long Walk: This is the newest Stephen King horror movie. The Long Walk is based on the Stephen King book of the same name and directed by the man behind the Hunger Games films. The movie is about a group of teenage boys who compete in an annual competition called The Long Walk, where they must maintain walking at a certain speed or get shot. The Long Walk will release on September 12th.

Gen V Season 2: This is the newest season set in the universe of Amazon Prime's The Boys. Gen V Season 2 continues the story of a group of students at a college for superheroes as they continue to learn how to effectively use their powers. Gen V will release on Amazon Prime Video on September 17th.

Survivor Season 49: This is more for Sarah than for me, but this is the newest season of the ever-popular reality show. Survivor Season 49 is a reality show about 18 contestants who are competing on an island to become the sole survivor. Survivor Season 49 will air on CBS on September 24th.

The Strangers: Chapter 2: This is the newest film in the The Strangers franchise and continues where the first film left off. The Strangers: Chapter 2 continues the story of Maya, the survivor of the first film, as she must survive another attack from the three mysterious strangers. The Strangers: Chapter 2 releases on September 26th.

One Battle After Another: This is the newest film from Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of There Will Be Blood and Boogie Nights. One Battle After Another stars Leonardo DiCaprio and tells the story of a group of ex-revolutionaries who reunite to save the daughter of one of their own. One Battle After Another will release on September 26th.

The Amazing Race Season 38: This is the other reality TV show that Sarah and I like to watch. The Amazing Race is a global competition that sees several teams of 2 traveling across multiple countries in a race around the world. The Amazing Race Season 38 will air on CBS on October 1st.

Abbott Elementary Season 5: This is the newest season of the hit ABC comedy. Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary-style comedy about a group of teachers at an elementary school in downtown Philadelphia. Abbott Elementary Season 5 will air on ABC on October 1st.

Marvel Zombies: This is the final Marvel animated show of the year. Marvel Zombies is a spinoff of the Zombie episode of What If? and continues the story of an alternate universe where the majority of The Avengers have been turned into Zombies. Marvel Zombies will release on Disney+ on October 3rd.

The Smashing Machine: This is a new film from A24 starring Dwayne Johnson. The Smashing Machine tells the story of Mark Kerr, the famous UFC fighter, and the ups and downs of his career. The Smashing Machine will release on October 3rd

The Woman in Cabin 10: This is a new mystery thriller film from Netflix. The Woman in Cabin 10 stars Kierra Knightley as a travel writer who stumbles across a gruesome secret while traveling on a cruise ship. The Woman in Cabin 10 will release on Netflix on October 10th.

Tron: Ares: This is the newest film in the Tron franchise. Tron: Ares is about a highly sophisticated program, Ares, that is sent from the digital world to the real world on a mission. Tron: Ares will release on October 10th.

Ghosts Season 5: This is another comedy show that Sarah and I like. Ghosts follows young couple Sam and Jay as they try to run a B&B from a house that is inhabited by ghosts. Ghosts Season 5will air on CBS on October 16th.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, Season 2: This is the final comedy that Sarah and I like to keep up on. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is a spin-off of Young Sheldon and follows Georgie Cooper and his wife Mandy as they attempt to navigate married life. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage Season 2 will air on CBS on October 16th.

Good Fortune: This is a new comedy starring Keanu Reeves. Good Fortune follows Gabriel, an inept guardian angel, as he meddles in the life of a struggling gig worker. Good Fortune will release on October 17th.

Black Phone 2: This is a sequel to the well-received film from 2021. The Black Phone 2 continues the story of Finn as his sister begins to receive calls from the black phone and see disturbing images of boys being stalked at a winter camp. The Black Phone 2 will release on October 17th.

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere: This is a new musician biopic about Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere stars Jeremy Allen White, Carmy from The Bear, and follows Bruce Springsteen as he grows into the famous musician he is known for. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere will release on October 24th.

Mortal Kombat 2: This is the sequel to the 2021 film about the hit video game. Mortal Kombat 2 continues the story of the first film and sees fan favorite champions prepare and compete in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Mortal Kombat 2 will release on October 24th.

Bugonia: This is the new film from Yorgos Lanthimos, director of The Favorite and Poor Things. Bugonia follows two young men as they kidnap a high-powered CEO whom they are convinced is an alien. Bugonia will release on October 31st.

It: Welcome to Derry: This is a prequel series to the first film in Stephen King's It series. It: Welcome to Derry takes place in the 1960s and follows the events that lead up to the events of the first film. It: Welcome to Derry will release on HBO Max sometime in October.

November

The Running Man: This is the newest film from Edgar Wright, director of Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Shaun of the Dead, and is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name. The Running Man stars Glen Powell as a cash-strapped man who joins a game show where contestants are pursued by hunters hired to kill them. The Running Man will release on November 7th

Predator: Badlands: This is the newest film in the Predator franchise. Predator: Badlands follows an outcast Predator who teams up with an unlikely ally in his search for the ultimate opponent. Predator Badlands will release on November 7th

Now You See Me: Now You Don't: This is the newest film in the Now You See Me series. Now You See Me: Now You Don't follows the original team of magicians as they recruit new members to pull off the ultimate heist. Now You See Me: Now You Don't will release on November 14th.

Wicked: For Good: This is part 2 of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical. Wicked: For Good continues the stories of Elphaba and Glinda as they work to expose the Wizard of Oz for what he truly is. Wicked: For Good will release on November 21st.

Zootopia 2: This is the newest Disney animated film. Zootopia 2 continues the story of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they work to crack their toughest case yet. Zootopia 2 will be released on November 26th.

Stranger Things Season 5: This is the final season of the hit Netflix show. Stranger Things Season 5 closes out the story of the kids from Hawkins, Indiana, in a big 3 part finale. Part 1 of Stranger Things Season 5 will release on November 26th, Part 2 will release on December 25th, and Part 3 will release on December 31st.

Frankenstein: This is the newest film from Guillermo Del Toro and stars Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi. Frankenstein is a retelling of the Mary Shelley classic novel and tells the story of a brilliant scientist who brings a monstrous creature to life. Frankenstein will release on Netflix in November.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2: This is a sequel to the popular video game horror movie from 2023. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 continues the story of Mike Schmidt and the terror that is the abandoned Freddy's Fazbear Pizzeria. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 will release on December 5th.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2: This is the new season of the popular fantasy TV and book series. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 continues the story of Percy and his friends as they journey to the Sea of Monsters to find a magic fleece to save their camp. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will release on Disney+ on December 10th.

Hamnet: This is the newest film from Chloe Zhao, director of Best Picture winner Nomadland. Hamnet tells the story of Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare, as she comes to terms with the loss of her son. This is a likely Best Picture contender. Hamnet will release on December 12th.

Wake Up Dead Man: This is the newest film in the Knives Out series. Wake Up Dead Man continues the story of Benoit Blanc as he encounters his most dangerous case yet. Wake Up Dead Man will release on Netflix on December 12th.

Avatar: Fire and Ash: This is the newest film from James Cameron. Avatar: Fire and Ash returns to the world of Pandora, where Jake and his family encounter yet another new tribe of the Na'vi. Avatar: Fire and Ash will release on December 19th.

Anaconda: This is a remake of the 1997 creature feature of the same name. Anaconda stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd and follows a group of friends who decide to enter the jungle and remake a favorite movie of their youth, but soon encounter unexpected events. Anaconda will release on December 25th

Wonder Man: This is the final show of the Year for the MCU. Wonder Man follows a Hollywood actor who joins the world of superheroes when he gets powers of his own. Wonder Man will release on Disney+ in December.

Fallout Season 2: This is the newest season of the TV show adaptation of the popular video game. Fallout Season 2 continues the stories of Lucy and Maximus as they attempt to navigate the post-apocalyptic Los Angeles wasteland. Fallout Season 2 will release on Amazon Prime Video in December.

The Witcher Season 4: This is the newest season of the hit Netflix fantasy show. The Witcher Season 4 continues the stories of Geralt, Yennifer, and Princess Ciri as they navigate across their world to try and keep Ciri safe. The Witcher Season 4 will release sometime in 2025.
