With it being the start of 2024, I wanted to share my 10 most anticipated movies of the year. These are the movies that I am most excited about for the year. I lot of them are sequels but a few of them are standalone projects. This is also a unique year as there are no DCU, Star Wars, and only one MCU project coming out this year.
Before I start, I also wanted to share a few smaller studio or lesser known movies that are coming out this year that you should keep your eye on.
The Beekeeper- Jason Statham is a beekeeper that beats up bad guys. It looks like nonsense but sometime I need some good nonsense. Release Date is January 12th
I.S.S- This looks like an exciting thriller set on the I.S.S. Release Date is Jan 19th
Civil War- This is a large scale action thriller from A24 that centers around a modern day Civil War. Release Date is April 26th
IF- This looks to be a charming family friendly film about imaginary friends staring Ryan Reynolds and directed by John Krasinski. Release Date is May 27th
Horizon: An American Saga- This is a two part cowboy western epic staring Kevin Costner. Release Dates are June 28th and August 16th
The Bike Riders- This is a gangster film about a midwestern motorcycle club staring Tom Hardy and Austin Butler. Release Date is June 21st
Rebel Moon: Part 2- The Scargiver- This is the second part of the Rebel Moon story that came out in December. The first one wasn't great but I hold out hope that the second one will be better. Release Date is April 19th.
Now here are my ten most anticipated films of 2024.
10. Ballerina
Ballerina is a spinoff film in the world of John Wick. It stars Ana de Armas as the lead character and is about an assassin who is seeking revenge against the people who killed her family. I really enjoy the John Wick franchise and am quite interested in seeing a movie that is set in the same world but with new characters. I also like the action sequences in this franchise and hope the action is just as good as the John Wick films. It looks promising as it seems to tie in characters from other films such as John Wick, Winston, and Charon. As of writing this, there is no trailer for this film. Release Date is June 7th.

9. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the newest film in the Planet of the Apes franchise. I have enjoyed the direction they have gone with the last three films and am very interested to see what happens next after the exit of Caeser. I am also really interested to see a world that is basically overgrown and run by apes where humans are the primitive species. If it is anywhere close to the other films, it should be a good time. Release Date is May 24th
8. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
This is the sequel to 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife and follows these same characters as a new threat emerges in New York City and freezes the town. I enjoyed the last film a lot and am very interested to see these same characters in NYC fighting side by side with our classic Ghostbusters. It also looks like Paul Rudd gets to have some ghost-catching action which is always fun to see. I think the last films really worked and I hope to see them build on that for this one. Release Date is March 29th
7. Argyle
Argyle is an original spy action film from direction Matthew Vaughn (director of the Kingsman films). It follows Ellie Conway as she is recruited by a spy organization when it is discovered that the novels that she writes are playing out in real life. The biggest thing that excites me about this film is that it is an original story. We don't get very many of those these days and this one just looks like a blast. It also looks to have a stacked cast with Henry Cavil, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Samuel L Jackson, and many others. Release Date is February 2nd.
6. The Fall Guy
The Fall Guy is another original action movie. This movie centers around a stuntman who is enlisted to rescue the star of a big-budget movie that goes missing. It stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Based on the trailer, this movie looks to be incredibly action-packed and very funny. There are not many great original action movies out there so I hope this movie breaks through that wall. Release Date is May 3rd.
5. Beetlejuice 2
This is a sequel that has been awaited for almost 40 years. Most of the time awaited comedy sequels don't seem to do great but this one checks all the write boxes to be great. It has Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder returning to their roles and has Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter. Tim Burton also came back to direct this film. The original was my favorite Tim Burton so I am very excited for this one. As of writing this, there is no trailer for this film. Release Date is September 6th.

4. Joker: Folie a Deux
This has the most bizarre premise of all the movies on this list. It is a sequel to Joker which was an extremely heavy film but this one is somehow a musical. That right there sells it for me just on curiosity alone. Joaquin Phoenix was great in the original film so I am excited to see him back. This movie also features Lady GaGa as Harley Quinn which is another interesting choice that has me interested. As of writing this, there is no trailer for this film. Release Date is October 4th.

3. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
This movie is a spinoff of the Lord of the Rings. It tells the story behind the fortress of Helm's Deep. Lord of the Rings is my favorite series of all time so anything new in this world is going to get me excited. It is going to be an animated movie which is an interesting direction to go but the animation style being described sounds very unique so I am interested to see how it turns out. The movie also features the return of some actors from the original film. As of writing this, there is no trailer for this film. Release Date is December 13th.

2. Deadpool 3
This is the one MCU film coming out in 2024. The other two Deadpool movies were a lot of fun and this one being a part of the MCU makes it even more exciting. I am interested to see Deadpool again and see how he gets tied into the greater MCU. The biggest draw of this movie is the return of High Jackman as Wolverine. I am beyond excited to see what they do with his character. As of writing this, there is no trailer for this film. Release Date is July 26th.

I. Dune Part 2
This film is a sequel to Dune which came out in 2021. This was number 3 on my list last year but it got delayed due to the writer's strike and makes number 1 for this year. Denis Villeneuve did such a good job with Dune Part 1 that I am really excited to see what he does with Part 2. I have also read the book and know what happens and am really excited about how it will be adapted to the screen. Release Date March 1st.

I’m curious what the animation style of War of the Rohirrim will be.
“Sometimes I need some good nonsense.” Love this line! I’m looking forward to The Planet of the Apes movie and am intrigued about an animated LOTR story.
