Last week, the season finale of Only Murders in the Building, Season 5, was released on Hulu. This season of Only Murders in the Building continues the adventures of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel as they work to uncover the culprit behind the death of their doorman, Lester. Sarah and I have enjoyed this show a lot, so we were very excited for a new season.

Overall, I found this season to be as good as the last few. I like how each season adds in a little fun theme to it, like Season 3 with Oliver's Play and Season 4 with the Hollywood movie. Season 5 brings in the mob of NYC and underground casinos. This makes it so each season feels a bit different instead of just the same tired premise over and over. The best thing about this show is still the chemistry between the three leads. We always knew that Steve Martin and Martin Short had great chemistry together but somehow throwing Selena Gomez into the mix brings this whole dynamic with lots of jokes about their cultural and age differences. Another thing that stands out with this show from all the others is that it is not at all predictable. Many other mystery shows, you can see where things are headed halfway through, but this show keeps you guessing until the end. Sarah and I had no idea who the killer was until the show revealed it. This season also does a great job of not having any filler episodes. Each episode pulls on a thread established from the previous one as our three characters look through different leads to try and find the killer. Doing it this way helps draw the season out without it feeling drawn out. I also liked how the show gave other members of the building some fun moments, such as Howard, where they actually help our characters towards the end. I also enjoyed the fun guest stars we got this season with Keegan-Michael Key, Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, and Renee Zellweger. They just add new flair to the show and help it not get tired out.

There really aren't many issues with this season. The only thing is that there are a few plot threads that show up for a season but never resolve, such as Charles talking to people that died. It is relatively minor, as these minor plot points don't significantly contribute to the overall story, so it may be best to leave them out.

In the end, this was another fun season that brought a fresh take to the whodunnit subgenre. This continues to by one of my favorite mystery shows and I look forward to Season 6.

Score: 8.5/10 Grade: A+ Recommendation: This is a must-see show
