Summer 2024 Releases to Watch Out For

With June starting off a bit slow, I wanted to share a look at the upcoming releases for the summer. Obviously, I am not writing about everything this summer as that would be impossible. Still, I wanted to share some of the upcoming movie and TV show releases I am excited about.

June TV Show Avalanche

For whatever reason, all the streaming services decided to release their big TV shows in June. While it will make for a busy month with TV watching I am still excited about all these shows.

Doctor Who: While this technically started in May, it is still releasing through June. This is the newest addition to the Doctor Who franchise and stars Ncuti Gatwa as the next iteration of The Doctor. It is more or less a fresh start to the series so it would be easy for anyone new to jump in. Doctor Who releases on Fridays on Disney+.

The Boys Season 4: The Boys is one of my all-time favorite shows so I am very excited to see what direction the story goes in this season. The Boys follows a group of vigilantes focused on stopping a corrupt group of Superheroes. Season 4 will begin on Thursday, June 13th on Amazon Video.

House of the Dragon Season 2: This is the second season of the Game of Thrones Prequel show that centers around the Targaryen family. The trailers have done a great job of building the hype and I am very interested to see where the story goes in this new season. House of the Dragon begins Sunday, June 16th on Max.

The Bear Season 3: Another one of my favorite shows, The Bear follows Carmen Berzatto as he attempts to run a fine dining restaurant. This show is a lot more interesting than it sounds and is definitely worth a watch. The Bear Season 3 will be released in its entirety on Thursday, June 27th on Hulu

The Acolyte: The Acolyte is the newest Disney+ Star Wars show. This show is set in the High Republic era as it follows the investigation of a series of Jedi Murders. The Acolyte will be released on Wednesday, June 4th on Disney+

June Movies

The Watchers: A horror-thriller by M. Night Shamylan's daughter that follows a young artist who is trapped in a shelter that is stalked by mysterious creatures every night. The Watchers will be released on June 7th.

Hit Man: An action romance comedy that follows a hitman who descends into difficult territory when he becomes attracted to one of his clients. I have heard good things about this movie and expect it to be a big hit this summer. Hit Man will be released on Netflix on June 7th.

Bad Boys Ride or Die: This is the fourth film in the Bad Boys franchise and follows Mike and Marcus as they go on the run when they are suspected to be involved in corruption. Bad Boys: Ride or Die will be released on June 7th.

Inside Out 2: This is the newest Pixar film and follows the emotions in Riley's head as they attempt to navigate her through puberty and anxiety. Inside Out 2 will be released on June 14th.

The Bikeriders: This is more of an Indie film starring Tom Hardy and Austin Butler. It follows a biker gang as it transforms into a mob of violence. The Bike Riders will be released on June 21st

Kinds of Kindness: This is from the director of Poor Things and tells a series of vignettes about a large cast of characters such as Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, and others. Kinds of Kindness releases on June 21st

Horizon: An American Saga- Chapter 1: This is a good old-fashioned written, directed, and starring Kevin Cosner. This is part one of an epic taking place over the post-Civil War expansion of the USA. Horizon will be released on June 28th.

A Quiet Place: Day One: This is a prequel to the other Quiet Place movies and takes place in New York City when the initial alien invasion occurs. A Quiet Place: Day One is released on June 28th.

July Releases

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F: This is the fourth film in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise and follows Axel Folley as he journeys back to Beverly Hills after his daughter's life is threatened. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F releases on Netflix on July 3rd

Despicable Me 4: This is the newest addition to the Despicable Me franchise and follows Gru as he must navigate life with his new son as a new nemesis emerges. I have no doubt that this will make a ton of money. Despicable Me 4 releases on July 3rd.

Fly Me to the Moon: This movie is a new romantic comedy starring Channing Tatum and Scarlet Johansson. The movie follows Kelly Jones and Cole Davis as NASA attempts to market the moon launch and film a fake moon landing as a backup. Fly Me to the Moon releases on July 12th.

Twisters: This is the sequel to the 1990 hit film that centers around a pair of storm chases as they attempt to test experimental weather alert systems. This movie looks like absolute nonsense but sometimes we need a little nonsense. Twisters release on July 19th

Deadpool and Wolverine: This is the one MCU film this year and centers around Deadpool as he is pulled from the Fox X-Men universe into the MCU and also features the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Deadpool and Wolverine releases on July 26th.

August Releases

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 2: This show is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings and centers around the early kingdoms of the Elves, Men, and Dwarves as they deal with the emergence of Sauron. Rings of Power Season 2 will be released on Amazon Video on Thursday, August 29th

The Instigators: This is a new movie from Apple starring Matt Dameon and Casey Affleck and follows two robbers as they go on the run after a theft goes wrong. The Instigators will be released on Apple TV+ on August 9th.

Trap: This is the newest film from M. Night Shyamalan and follows a father and his daughter at a pop concert that is secretly a trap for a wanted criminal. Trap will be released on August 9th.

Borderlands: This is a new video game adaption by Eli Roth starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate Blanchet, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Ariana Greenblatt as a group of ragtag adventures trying to save a missing girl. Borderlands releases on August 9th.

Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2: This is part two of the Kevin Costner story that is starting in June. Chapter 2 will be released on August 16th.

Alien: Romulus; This is the newest addition to the Alien franchise. It follows a group of space colonizers as they are attacked by the dangerous Xenomorphs. Alien: Romulus will be released on August 16th.

The Crow: This is an R-rate remake of a gritty superhero story from the 90's. The Crow follows a man who loses his soulmate as he vows to get revenge against the people who wronged him.
