Last Wednesday, Season 4 of The Bear dropped on Hulu. Season 4 of The Bear continues the story of Carmen Berzatto and the rest of the staff at The Bear as they work to recover from a lukewarm review and try to make the restaurant profitable. The Bear has been one of my favorite actively releasing TV shows, so I was very excited to see if season 4 would continue the greatness of the other seasons.
After the slightly lower level of season 3, I am happy that season 4 of The Bear brings back the magic of the original 2 seasons. Season 4 goes back to being a goal-focused instead of a character-focused season. While there is a lot of character growth and moments still in the show, the main focus is on improving the restaurant after a poor review and getting it out of the red. Making the season have a go helps it get back to having forward moments instead of feeling like it meanders. While it has this main focus, I like how the show still gives each character a little subplot to work through during the season. You have Tina trying to shave time off her pasta prep, Ritchie processing the wedding of his ex-wife, Sydney deciding whether to stay with the Bear or move to a new restaurant, and Marcus trying to add some fire to his dessert output. Each one gets plenty of focus, with most of them getting some moments in almost every episode. I also like how this season created more of a sense of urgency with a literal ticking clock. They are given a certain amount of time to bring The Bear out of the red, or else it will be closed. This just helps bring further emphasis to the overarching story of the season. One of my favorite parts of this season was the wedding episode. There are just so many fun moments in that episode, and it shows the supportive nature of the Berzatto family. This episode is what I would describe as a rare, perfect episode. Finally, I like how this season goes back to mostly focusing on restaurant operations. I felt that season 3 got a little away from that. This season is all about trying to make the kitchen more efficient and improve things about The Bear.
Overall, this is another fantastic season of The Bear and continues to maintain the show's place as a top-tier prestige TV show.
Score: 10/10 Grade: A+ Recommendation: This is a must-see show
