This weekend, The Beekeeper, the newest Jason Statham action film released in theaters. The Beekeeper follows a former agent of a secret organization as he goes on a brutal campaign to take revenge after experiencing a tragic loss. I had pretty low expectations for this movie considering it is called The Beekeeper, I expected it to be pretty ridiculous.
This movie is about as good as one would expect a movie called The Beekeeper to be. It is complete nonsense but is still a lot of fun to watch. This movie is essentially a mashup between The Bee Movie and John Wick except with no Jerry Seinfeld. The action sequences are all way over the top and completely ridiculous. There is one scene where Jason Statham ties a guy to the back of a pickup drive and then drives the truck off of a cliff pulling the guy along. It is just stupid but so fun. The action sequences, while stupid, were very entertaining. The movie is never dull with pretty much nonstop action from beginning to end. The movie was also unintentionally funny. Several moments made me laugh out loud but only because of how stupid certain aspects of the film are. The bigger-name actors are some of the better parts of the film. Jason Statham is always fun but then the movie also has Jeremy Irons and Josh Hutcherson in more villainous roles. It was fun to see Josh Hutcherson play someone so different than Peeta. It was also quite fun to see Jason Statham take revenge on a bunch of scammers. There were also a lot more bee fun facts than I was expecting. The basic premise of the movie is pretty ridiculous as well. Essentially, Jason Statham is taking revenge on a bunch of scammers because a woman he knows was dumb enough to fall for their trip and then kills herself because she lost all of her money. The movie also gets really stupid in how high up it goes in terms of government connections.
In the end, this is a pretty ridiculous movie, but a very fun movie nonetheless. It is complete nonsense, but sometimes I just need a little nonsense.
Score: 6.5/10 Grade: B- Recommendation: Check it out if you like throwback action movies.

A little nonsense is healthy from time to time.
