This week, the final episode of season 3 of The Mandalorian was released on Disney+. The show follows lone Mandalorian, Din Djarin as he travels across the galaxy. This season specifically focuses on The Mandalorian as a group and their quest to reclaim their home planet of Mandalore. The first two seasons of the show were some of the best Star Wars of the past 10 10 years so I was excited to see where season 3 took things.
As with the first two seasons, this third season was a very fun season of Star Wars television. It delivers a lot of the aspects I love about Star Wars with big battles, ship battles, and lots of aliens. I also really enjoyed the Mando and Grogu dynamic that grows throughout this season. We get to see their relationship develop and see them become more father-son-like. The season also gives Bo Katan a lot more time to shine. She is center stage with Din for a majority of the episodes and we really get to see her grow as a character and leader. I also thought several individual episodes were really well done. The last two episodes specifically were the best in the season and were at the level of the best levels of the first two seasons. I also enjoyed a lot of the cameos that were a part of this season. It was really fun to see Jack Black show up in an episode. This season also got me really excited for what is coming next in the universe just in the aspects it sets up with Thrawn and the upcoming Ahsoka show. Finally, I really liked how the show handled the growth of The Mandalorian as a group. Their organizations really go through some changes and grow for the better.
Unfortunately, this season is probably the weakest of the three seasons. The first issue is that the season takes a bit of time to get going. I had a really hard time seeing what the end goal was for the season especially since the initial focus was resolved after two episodes. I also felt that the first few episodes were a bit unfocused. The season jobs around quite a bit to a lot of different plot points and doesn't really dial in until the end of the season. Finally, I felt that they resolved a few plot lines too quickly. There were several plot lines that I expected to be season-long arcs that were resolved in a couple episodes and never at the level that I hoped they would.
Overall, this was a solid third season of The Mandalorian. However, the season as a whole is a bit unfocused and takes a while to really get going. It makes for an entertaining watch but is still the weakest season thus far.
Score: 7.5/10 Grade: B Recommendation: Check this show out if you are a Star Wars fan
