This week, the season finale of The Pitt Season 2 takes us through a day in the lives of various ER doctors and nurses working in a Pittsburgh Hospital as they juggle personal crises, workplace issues, and the toll of a constant stream of critically ill patients. Sarah and I checked out season 1 of this show last year and thought it was very good, so we were very curious to see how the second season turned out.
I found season 2 to be just as good as season 1. This show does a great job of keeping you engaged for the entire episode. When one intense patient is taken care of, another one comes in right away, and in between these, we get to hear about the personal lives of the characters. The pacing is just so well done, with a single aspect of the show never bogging things down. The show also sprinkles in a couple of game-changing moments, similar to the festival shooting of season 1, that add extra challenges to the doctors providing care. However, these new aspects are different enough from the shooting in season 1 that it doesn't feel like a rehash of what was done before. I also liked the new character additions that we got. There are two new medical students who have joined, which gives characters like Whitaker a chance to take on more teaching roles. These new students are also different than the other characters and add a new perspective with their style of patient care. We get a new doctor in Dr. Al-Hashimi, who is a bit of a foil to Dr. Robby, which creates an interesting dynamic between the two as they have very different leadership and working styles. The show also does a good job of freshening up the old characters by giving them new challenges to work through while also bringing in some aspects of season 1 that affect them in season 2. One of the most impressive things about the show is the medical accuracy. As a former ER nurse, Sarah said that everything that happens in the show is pretty accurate. She says that a lot of the procedures are accurate, as well as a lot of the terminology that they use. She said that the only real inaccuracies were the amount of critical patients seen in one day, as well as some of the stuff that the doctors are doing, the nurses would actually be doing in real life. As a non-medical person, I thought the show did a good job of not dumbing down the medical stuff while also explaining it in a way that normies like me will still know what is going on.
The biggest nitpick I had was that at times, there was just so much going on that you often forgot about certain characters. Certain patients will come in and then not be seen for a few patients, and by the time we see them again, I don't remember what was wrong with them before, but I think that has more to do with the weekly release schedule than the actual show. I also thought that Dr. Al-Hashimi's reveal at the end of the show didn't make much sense in terms of why she decides to reveal it at that time.
Overall, The Pitt Season 2 is a fantastic season that consistently keeps viewers engaged while maintaining medical accuracy.
Score: 9.5/10 Grade: A+ Recommendation: This is a must see show.
