This weekend, Venom: The Last Dance, the final film in the Venom trilogy, opens in theaters. The film follows Eddie and Venom as they are on the run from the US government. When an alien force comes to Earth to release their leader, Eddie and Venom must go on one last adventure to save the world and themselves. I enjoyed the first two Venom films as dumb but fun movies and figured this one would be more of the same.

As expected, this movie was a lot of fun but incredibly dumb, just like the other two films. This movie knows exactly what wants to be. It knows it comes across as goofy and dumb and just plays it up. The highlight of the movie and this franchise is the dynamic between Eddie and Venom. The characters have this whole bromance going and it just makes the movie so much fun. The back and forth between Eddie and Venom and the shenanigans that Venom gets them into is a blast to watch and made me laugh out loud so many times. I also liked how this movie was essentially a road trip story with Eddie and Venom moving from place to place and having a fun little sequence at each stop. I think if the movie was more focused on that, it would have been much better. Throughout the movie, there are a lot of fun sequences that just play into the campiness of it all. I don't need to think too hard about the story when I get to watch Venom do a whole dance routine to Dancing Queen (which isn't something I realized I needed in my life until now). Finally, I thought the third act was just much fun and action-packed. I was a bit disappointed by the movie, but then the third act came along and really won me over.

This movie would be so easy to rip apart. The script is absolutely terrible with clunky storytelling, uneven pacing and tone, and just an incredibly stupid plot. The movie also has just way too many characters with most of them having no business or purpose being in the movie. But ultimately, if I wanted a quality script and well-written characters, I would not be watching a Venom movie. These movies are junk food movies. They are not good movies quality-wise but are still very entertaining.

I don't care that the random scientist gets a backstory about her brother dying from a lightning strike for no reason when I get to see Venom taking over a horse to the tune of Don't Stop Me Now.

In the end, this is a very dumb yet very fun movie that gives you everything you want out of the Venom franchise as long as you don't think too hard about it. It is a good turn off your brain and enjoy kind of movie.

Score: 6/10 Grade: C+ Recommendation: Check it out if you liked the other Venom movies
