With 2024 now at an end, I wanted to share my most anticipated movies and TV shows for 2025. Because I have been watching a lot more TV shows, I decided to include TV shows on this list as well as there are several that I am excited about. 2025 is looking to be a lot more promising than 2024 as it has many more DCU and MCU films, several new films from top-tier directors, and new seasons from some of my favorite TV shows. With that all said, here are my most anticipated movies and TV shows for 2025.
14. Sinners
Sinners is the newest film from Ryan Coogler and stars Michael B. Jordan. Ryan Coogler has been on a hit streak with his films recently having his last group of films being Creed, and both Black Panther films so seeing him direct an original story is quite exciting. Sinners appears to be a home invasion horror thriller centering around two brothers who are trying to start a new life. It looks to be a bit of a 1930s historical film while also going hard into the thriller aspect. I am hoping this will be more of a deep-thought kind of thriller similar in the vein of Jordan Peele. This film is currently scheduled to release on April 18th.
13. Mickey 17
Mickey 17 is the newest film from Bong Joon Ho, the director of 2019's Best Picture Winner, Parasite. Mickey 17 is a sci-fi story about an expendable crew member on a space mission who is sent on dangerous tasks. This film checks all the right boxes for me. It is a nonfranchise film, a sci-fi film, and stars great actors such as Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, and Toni Collette. This looks to be a very interesting Sci-Fi story from a director who has more than proved himself to be great. This film is currently scheduled to release on March 7th
12. Love Hurts
Love Hurts is a new action comedy starring Ke Huy Quan. Love Hurts follows a realtor who is forced back into his life of crime with his crime lord brother who comes after him. I had not heard of this movie before watching the trailer but it seems like a lot of fun. I am mostly excited about the actor than the actual story. Ke Huy Quan has such a cool story. He got his fame as Short Round and Data from Indiana Jones and the Goonies but was soon exiled from Hollywood struggling to get any sort of roles except in the stunt department. He finally gets a new role in 2022 in Everything All at Once, won an acting Oscar, and is now back in the spotlight. It will be so cool to see him finally earn his stardom in a movie in a genre that he worked so hard in behind the scenes for years. This film is scheduled to be released on February 7th.
11. The Last of Us Season 2
The Last of Us is a Max original show adapted from the video game of the same name. The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalypse world overrun by zombies and centers on Joel and Ellie journeying across the country trying to find their place in the world. I thoroughly enjoyed the first season and so am very excited to see the second season. I am interested to know where the relationship between Joel and Ellie goes after the events of the last episode. This is one of Max's better original shows up there with House of the Dragon and The Penguin. The show is set to be released on Max in 2025.
10. Thunderbolts
Thunderbolts is the MCU's take on the suicide squad. In the comics, the Thunderbolts are an antihero team that takes to place of the Avengers for a time so I am very interested in how this will integrate in the MCU. It stars a ton of antiheroes such as Yelena, Red Guardian, US Agent, Ghost, Task Master, and Bucky. I liked all of these characters individually so seeing them in a team together just seems like a lot of fun. The MCU has been hit or miss lately so I am hoping that this movie will bring it back on track. This movie is scheduled to be released on May 2nd.
9. Avatar: Fire and Ash
Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third film in the Avatar franchise. Whether you think these movies are good or bad, they are always visually stunning. I think all of the Avatar films have been great so I am quite excited for this one and if this is the only way I'm going to get a James Cameron film then so be it. I am interested to see which tribe of Pandora the movie decides to uncover next. So far, we've gotten the tree people and the water people. However this movie turns out, I'm confident it will make a ridiculous amount of money and probably make it so 3 of the 4 highest-grossing movies of all time will be Avatar films. This film is currently scheduled to be released on December 19th.

8. The Bear Season 4
The Bear is one of my favorite shows so obviously, I am very excited to see another season. The Bear centers around Carmen Berzato as he attempts to run his restaurant in Chicago. The Bear has delivered 3 great seasons so I am interested to see where the story goes next. This show is full of great performances, solid storylines, and a good amount of subtle humor. It just has the perfect mix of everything. There isn't much information about this season but I am hoping that we get to explore more of the actual restaurant in service. Last season was a bit more character-driven so I'm hoping this season will go back to being more plot-heavy. This season is set to be released on Hulu in 2025.
7. Paddington In Peru
This may seem like a bit of a left-field pick but I found the first 2 Paddington films very delightful and am so ready for another addition to the franchise. The first two films are just such sweet and emotional movies with the second film being a rare film to get 100% on rotten tomatoes (until a random troll decided to give it a bad review three years after the film came out). This movie follows Paddington as he journeys to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy. I'm hoping this movie sparks a franchise where each Paddington movie is a different genre. So far we've had a feel-good family story, a prison break movie, and an adventure story. Next, they could do Paddington Mission Impossible, a Paddington rom-com, or even a Paddington horror film. The possibilities are endless. I'm ready for this movie to be great. This film is currently scheduled for February 14th.
6. Ballerina
Ballerina was on my list last year but was unfortunately delayed, so here it is again. Ballerina is a spinoff film in the world of John Wick. It stars Ana de Armas as the lead character and is about an assassin who is seeking revenge against the people who killed her family. I enjoy the John Wick franchise and am quite interested in seeing a movie that is set in the same world but with new characters. I also like the action sequences in this franchise and hope the action is just as good as the John Wick films. It looks promising as it seems to tie in characters from other films such as John Wick, Winston, and Charon. As of writing this, there is no trailer for this film. This film is scheduled to be released on June 6th.
5. Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again is the one MCU TV show I am excited about. This show centers around Matt Murdock as he fights back against Wilson Fisk who is attempting to take over NYC as its mayor. This show is longer than any other MCU show at 18 episodes which hopefully will give it time to develop a compelling story and not rush the ending. The show looks to be a continuation of the Netflix series which I loved as well as pulling some elements from the comic book Born Again which I also loved. I am hoping this will bring some life in the Disney Plus MCU stuff especially since the show was rewritten and got significantly better. The show is scheduled to be released on March 4th.
4. Alien: Earth
Alien: Earth is the final TV show on this list and was unknown to me until I saw the Hulu 2025 ad. This show follows a group of soldiers as they encounter a ship that crash-landed on Earth which puts them face to face with the dangerous aliens. I love the Alien franchise so I am very excited to see another instalment. Especially one that takes place on Earth. I am hoping this film captures the same level of horror that Alien and Alien: Romulus did while also bringing in some of the action of Aliens. I am also very curious to see how this premise works as a show instead of a movie. This show is set to be released on Hulu in 2025.
3. The Fantastic Four: First Steps
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the final MCU entry on the list. As the name implies, this film finally brings The Fantastic Four into the MCU. The Fantastic Four is a mainstay of Marvel and I am very excited that we are hopefully finally going to get a good Fantastic Four movie. I am also very excited about the cast with Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. I've heard that this is supposed to be a retro 60s sort of vibe and I am very excited to see how it ties into the MCU. This movie will be released on July 25th.

2. Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning
Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning is essentially tied as my most anticipated movie of the year. Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning picks up where the last film left off and follows Ethan and his team as they continue to try and take down the entity. The last Mission Impossible film was my most anticipated movie of 2023 and I am very excited to see where they take the cliffhanger next. Mission Impossible is the rare franchise that has just gotten better with each installment so I am very excited to see how high this movie gets. I am also very interested to see what type of stunt Tom Cruise tries to kill himself with next. This movie will be released on May 23rd.
1. Superman
Superman is the official kickoff to James Gunn's new DCU. I am so excited to see a new Superman movie that looks to be a lot more uplifting than Man of Steel. James Gunn has done great work with The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy so I trust him to handle the reigns with Superman. This movie appears to not be an origin story and just gives a Superman already existing in his universe similar to The Batman. It also looks to be bringing in several other characters such as Green Lantern, Supergirl, Hawkgirl, and Lex Luthor. I am hoping this movie hits with a bang and brings to life the new DCU. This movie will be released on July 11th.
