Winter and Spring 2025 Releases to Watch Out For

With the start of the new year, I wanted to give an overview of the upcoming TV and movie releases for the next four months. This overview covers the Winter and Spring movie and TV seasons. It does not include everything that will be released this year, just most of the major releases that caught my eye.

January Releases

Wolf Man: This is the newest Universal Studios monster movie. It is from the same director of The Invisible Man from 2020. This movie follows a family being attacked in a farmhouse by an unseen animal while the father character seems to be going through a disturbing transformation. I've been trying to get more into horror movies and I heard a lot of good things about The Invisible Man so hopefully this will be good too. Wolf Man will be released on January 17th.

September 5: This movie follows a sports broadcasting team during the 1972 Olympics as they attempt to provide live coverage of the Israeli athletes being taken hostage by terrorists. The story looks somewhat interesting and this is a film that looks to be in Best Picture contention. September 5 will be released on January 17th

Severance Season 2: Severance is a highly rated show from Apple TV+ that follows a group of office workers whose memories are surgically divided between work and personal lives. I haven't seen season 1 yet but I have had several people recommend it to me. Season 2 of Severance will release on Apple TV+ on January 17th

Flight Risk is a new action thriller starring Mark Wahlberg. It centers around a pilot who transports a fugitive to a trial. However, it is soon revealed that not everyone onboard is who they seem. I'm not expecting this movie to be great, but it looks like an entertaining enough B-level thriller. Flight Risk will be released on January 24th.

Companion: This is a new horror thriller and follows a group of girls on a weekend trip who experience a chain of events after a billionaire's death. This looks to be an interesting enough thriller. Again, I'm not expecting much but the trailers had me intrigued. Companion will be released on January 31st.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: This is a new animated show portraying the origin story of Peter Parker as Spider-Man in a unique style that pays tribute to the character's comic book roots. This show will release on Disney+ on January 29th

February Releases

Love Hurts: This is a new action comedy starring Ke Huy Quan. It follows a relator who must return to the life he left behind after a former partner gives an ominous message and his brother-in-law begins to hunt him down. Ke Huy Quan has had such a cool story so seeing him get his own movie is a must-watch for me. Love Hurts will be released on February 7th.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2: This is part two of the final season of Cobra Kai. Cobra Kai takes place decades after the original Karate Kid film and follows Danny LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence as they once again become martial arts rivals. I have not seen any of Cobra Kai but I do like The Karate Kid and I want to get into this show at some point soon. Part 2 of Season 6 of Cobra Kai will release on February 13th on Netflix.

Captain America: Brave New World: This is the newest film in the MCU. It follows Sam Wilson as Captain America where he clashes with The President and must uncover the threat of an international incident. I've been a bit concerned about this movie but with Harrison Ford as Red Hulk, I am still very excited to see it. Captain America: Brave New World will be released on February 14th.

Paddington in Peru: This movie follows Paddington and his family as they venture into Peru to visit Paddington's Aunt Lucy. This is one of my most anticipated movies of the Year. The first two Paddington movies were such a delight so I'm really looking forward to this one as well. Paddington in Peru will be released on February 14th.

The Monkey: This is a new horror film based on the short story by Stephen King and directed by Osgood Perkins, the director of 2024's Longlegs. The Monkey follows two brothers who uncover a monkey toy in the attic. Soon a ton of gruesome murders begin to take place. The trailers had me somewhat intrigued with a Chucky/slasher vibe going on. The Monkey will be released on February 21st.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie: This is a new Looney Tunes movie and follows Porky Pig and Daffy Duck as they must work together to save the world from an alien invasion. I think the Looney Tunes are a lot of fun and I am hoping this movie is better than the last Looney Tunes film, Space Jam: A New Legacy. The Day the Earth Blew Up will be released on February 28th.

March Releases

Daredevil: Born Again: This is the newest MCU show on Disney+. It is essentially a sequel to Netflix's Daredevil as it follows Matt Murdock as he must once again go up against Wilson Fisk. This is my most anticipated TV show of the year. I loved Netflix's Daredevil so I am very excited to see where Disney goes with the character next. Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ on March 4th.

Mickey 17: This is the newest film from Bong Jun Ho, the director of Parasite. The movie follows Mickey, a spaceship worker who is "reborn" every time he dies as he attempts to help colonize a frozen planet. This is another one of my most anticipated movies of the year. It is a nonfranchise Sci-Fi story from an Oscar-winning director so I am quite excited. Mickey 17 will be released on March 7th.

Novocaine: This is a new action comedy thriller that follows a man who is incapable of feeling pain as he stages an attempt to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend. This looks to be an entertaining little action film. I don't have high hopes but it should be fun. Novocaine will be released on March 14th.

Black Bag: This is a new spy thriller directed by Steven Soderberg. It follows intelligence agent, Kathryn Woodhouse, who is suspected of betraying the nation, and her husband who must choose between loyalty to his wife or his country. This looks to be an interesting original spy film which we are in short supply of these days. Black Bag will be released on March 14th.

Snow White: This is the newest live-action remake from Disney and stars Rachel Zegler as the titular character. The movie follows Snow White as she flees from the Evil Queen and meets seven dwarves who take her in. I am a bit skeptical of this one with some of the comments Rachel Zegler has made but we shall see how it goes. The trailers look to be a significant departure from the original film. Snow White will be released on March 21st.

Alto Knights: This is a new gangster crime drama starring Robert DeNiro. It follows the heads of two crime families as they attempt to do each other in. This looks to be a throwback gangster movie with a Martin Scorsese vibe to it so it will be worth a watch. Alto Knights will be released on March 21st.

April Releases

A Minecraft Movie: This is a new movie adaptation of the hit video game, Minecraft. The movie follows four misfits as they attempt to navigate a new world built on imagination with the help of an unexpected crafter. The trailers for this look terrible and the idea sounds incredibly stupid but kids seem very excited about it so we will see how bad it is. A Minecraft Movie will be released on April 4th.

The Amateur: This is a new spy thriller starring Rami Malek. It follows a CIA cryptographer who forces the agency to train him so he can go after the people who killed his wife. This looks to be another original spy film so I am quite excited to see how it goes. The Amateur will be released on April 11th.

Sinners: This is the newest horror thriller from Ryan Coogler, the director of Creed and Black Panther. It follows two brothers as they return home to start their lives again. However, they soon find that a new evil is waiting for them there. This is another of my most anticipated films. I am hoping for a "smart" horror film in the vein of Get Out or Us. Sinners will be released on April 18th.

Andor Season 2: This is the second and final season of the Disney+ Star Wars Show. The show centers around Cassian Andor before the events of Rogue One as he earns his place as a member of the rebellion. Andor is one of the better Star Wars Disney+ shows so I am very excited to see how the second season turns out. Andor Season 2 will be released on Disney+ on April 22nd.

The Accountant 2: The Accountant 2 is the sequel to the 2016 film, the Accountant. The film stars Ben Affleck and follows Christian Wolff as he continues his escapades as a money launderer. I have not seen the original film but plan to before this comes out. It is an action film starring Ben Affleck. I am not sure how I missed it before. The Accountant 2 will be released on April 25th.
