This week, the final episode of Ahsoka was released on Disney+. Ahsoka continues the journey in the Mandalorian universe as we follow Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren on their search to find Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra. This show marketed itself as a reunion of the Rebels character so I was very excited to check that out and see where they take the Ahsoka character.

On the whole, this delivers exactly what I wanted out of a Star Wars series. It has a lot of very cool lightsaber battles and some pretty exciting ship battles. After the past TV shows sharing stories that are more political thrillers (Andor) or Western/Samari stories (The Mandalorian), it was nice to get a more traditional Star Wars TV show.

This show does a great job of delivering consistent action. There isn't an episode that doesn't have some sort of space battle, lightsaber duel, or shoot-off. One of the coolest things about this show is that we get to see the Rebels characters in live-action. There are appearances from Hera, Chopper, Sabine, Ezra, and Grand Admiral Thrawn and it is just so cool to see them on screen together. It was also very cool to get to see Thrawn in his prime as he makes calculating decisions to try and outsmart Ahsoka. The new characters are also very cool. Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati are both solid additions to the story as we get to see some not exactly Jedi but not exactly Sith antagonists. I am interested to see where their stories go from here especially Baylan's considering Ray Stevenson passed away this year. I also thought this show added some depth to the Ahsoka character. We get to see her cope with what happened to Anakin in a unique way as well as see the impact his training has had on her even after his death. Finally, I thought that the pacing in the episodes was very well done. Each episode had its own goal and arc that was accomplished with no episode feeling like an in-between filler episode. Overall, this show delivered the most Star Wars stuff in a Star Wars show and a fun time.

One important thing to note that isn't necessarily good or bad is that the show is very clearly setting up an Heir to the Empire crossover film that Disney announced a while back. The show doesn't have a satisfying ending as the intention was to leave it a cliffhanger for this movie. It didn't bother me but some people may not care for that.

The biggest issue I had with the show is that the plot is very thin. The show has a lot of stuff I love about Star Wars but when you take out all of the fluff, the story is pretty bare. You could probably summarize the main plot of the show in one sentence. The other issue I had was that I did not care for the direction they took the Sabine character. She comes across as extremely selfish and rude and just has a lot of unlikable qualities to her. I feel like the show could have tried to not make her so obnoxious and give her a bit more of a character arc.

In the end, this is a solid Star Wars show that may be a little thin on the plot, but still delivers everything you want from a Star Wars show.

Score: 8/10 Grade: B+ Recommendation: Check it out if you are a Star Wars fan.
