With the start of a new season and September and October being a bit slow, I wanted to share the upcoming slate of movies and TV shows from now to the end of the year. Obviously, this isn't everything coming out this year, this is just the list of things on my radar that I'm going to try to check out by the end of the year.
September Releases
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: This is the newest film from Tim Burton and sees the return of many of the original cast members. The movie follows Lydia Deetz as she has to recruit Beetlejuice to assist in rescuing her daughter from the afterlife. This is one of my most anticipated movies of the year. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released on September 6th.
The Killers Game: This is an action comedy that stars Dave Batista and follows a veteran assassin who hires a hit on himself after learning about a life-threatening illness. The trailers sold me on this film. It looks like a very fun and highly energetic action film. The Killers Game will be released on September 13th
Agatha All Along: This is the newest show in the MCU and follows Agatha Harkness after she regains her memories and travels on the Witches Road to regain her powers. I am not sure why this show was greenlit but I like the vibes of the trailer so am interested to see where it goes. Agatha All Along will be released on Disney+ on September 18th.
The Penguin: This is a new Max show set in the same universe as 2022's The Batman. It follows Colin Farrell's Penguin as he works to take over the crime world after the death of Falcone. The Batman was one of my favorite movies from 2022 and Farrell is great as the Penguin so I'm excited to see what he does with his own show. The Penguin will be released on Max on September 19th.
Transformers One: This movie is an animated prequel about the origins of the Transformers. The trailers show this movie diving into the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron before they become enemies. Transformers One will be released on September 20th.
The Wild Robot: This is an animated film from Dreamworks and follows a shipwrecked robot that works to survive on an uninhabited planet. This movie seems to have some very sweet vibes to it with talks of an Oscar nomination so I am interested to see how it will turn out. The Wild Robot will be released on September 27th.
Wolfs: This is a new crime thriller starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney. It follows two hitman who are assigned to the same job and are forced to work together as their night gets out of control. This gives me Ocean's Eleven vibes, which I very much enjoy, so I am interested in seeing more of Brad Pitt and George Clooney together. Wolfs will be released on Apple TV+ on September 27th.
Megalopolis: This is the newest film from Francis Ford Coppola and centers around the city of New Rome as it becomes a point of conflict between a brilliant artist and the greedy mayor. Francis Ford Coppola is known for masterpieces like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now so I will always be interested in a new film from him. Megalopolis will be released on September 27th.
October Releases
Joker: Folie a Deux: This is the sequel to 2019's Joker and follows Arthur Fleck as he encounters Harley Quinn and goes on another chaotic adventure. This is another one of my most anticipated films of the year and I am very interested to see how this musical aspect is going to tie in. Joke: Folie A Deux will be released on October 4th.
Saturday Night: This is a film about the minutes leading up to the first show of Saturday Night Live. It features newer actors playing younger versions of comedy icons such as Dan Ackroyd, Chevy Chase, and Billy Crystal. I have heard positive buzz about this movie and figure it is worth a watch. Saturday Night will be released on October 11th.
Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage: This is a spinoff show to Young Sheldon, which is a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory (a spin-off of a spin-off?) and follows Georgie and Mandy as they attempt to navigate life with a new child. I enjoyed Young Sheldon quite a bit and am hoping this will be more of the same. George and Mandy's First Marriage will air on CBS on October 17th.
Ghosts Season 4: This is the TV show Sarah and I are currently watching. It follows a married couple that lives in a large house with a group of ghosts. The show is very funny and I am looking forward to the newest season. Ghosts Season 4 will air on CBS on October 17th.
Venom: The Last Dance: This is the newest film in the Venom franchise and follows Eddie and Venom as they are on the run from both of their worlds. The other two Venom films were a lot of fun so am hoping this movie will be more of the same. Venom: The Last Dance will be released on October 25th.
November Releases
Here: This is the newest film from Robert Zemeckis and centers around multiple families and the area they inhabit over many years. It sees the reunion of Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in the lead roles. There is very limited information about this movie. I like Tom Hanks so I am at least someone interested in this movie. Here will be released on Nov 1st.
Conclave: This movie centers around the Vatican as it begins the intense process of electing a new Pope. Normally this type of movie does not interest me but it has a lot of Oscar buzz and has a bit of a thriller vibe to it so it at least has my attention. Conclave will be released on November 8th
Red One: This is a new holiday action film from Amazon Studios. It follows the North Pole head of security and a world-infamous bounty hunter to track down the kidnapped Santa Claus. This movie stars Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. I am not expecting this movie to be particularly good but hoping it will at least be a lot of fun. Red One will be released on November 15th.
The Piano Lesson: This movie follows the Charles family as they decide what to do with a family piano. This movie stars Samuel L Jackson and John David Washington and is also getting a bit of Oscar buzz. The Piano Lesson will be released on Netflix on November 22nd.
Wicked: This is part one of the adaption of the hit Broadway musical. It stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande and follows witches Elphaba and Glinda as they make their way through life in Oz. I have never seen the musical Wicked but I at least feel I should cultured enough and see the movie. Wicked will be released on November 22nd.
Blitz: This is the newest film from Steve McQueen and follows a group of Londoners during the capital bombings of WWII. This is another movie that there is not much information about but there is a lot of Oscar potential about it so it seems at least worth watching. Blitz will be released on Apple TV+ on November 22nd.
Gladiator II: This is the long-awaited sequel to the hit film Gladiator. This movie follows Lucius as he journeys to the Colosseum to return the glory of Rome to his people. I have never seen the original Gladiator (Don't worry, I plan to before seeing the new one) but know it is a classic so I know this one will definitely be worth watching. Gladiator II will be released on November 22nd
Moana 2: This is the animated Disney release of the year and follows Moana as she once again journeys to the open ocean to answer a call from her ancestors. I am a little skeptical about this film as it was originally supposed to be a TV show but am hoping to be proved wrong. Moana 2 will be released on November 27th.
Dune: Prophecy: This is a spin-off series of the hit Dune movies. It follows the lives of the Bene Gesserit 10,000 years before the events of Dune. I loved the two Dune films so I am absolutely game for more time in this world. Dune Prophecy will be released on Max sometime in November.
December Releases
Y2K: This is a new horror comedy from A24 and follows a group of high schoolers during New Year's Eve 1999 when everything goes crazy at the stroke of midnight. The premise intrigues me and I like the actors in the film so I am very interested to see where this goes. Y2K will release on December 6th.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim: This is an anime addition to the Lord of the Rings franchise. It takes place 183 years before the events of the trilogy and follows Helm Hammerhand as he leads his people to defend the stronghold known as Helm's Deep. Lord of the Rings is my all-time favorite movie so of course I will always be excited for anything new in that world. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be released on December 13th.
Kraven the Hunter: This is the newest film in the Sony Spider-Man universe and follows Kraven the Hunter as he starts down a path of vengeance against his father. I'm fully expecting this movie to be bad but I am a completionist and need to keep up with all movies in a franchise so here we are. Kraven the Hunter will be released on December 13th.
Mufasa: The Lion King: This is a prequel to the live-action Lion King and follows a young Mufasa as he works to make himself king of the pride lands. This is another movie that I am not expecting to be great, but it should at least look very good and will inexplicably make a ton of money. Mufasa: The Lion King will be released on December 20th.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3: This is the newest addition to the Sonic franchise and follows Sonic and his friends as they face off against Shadow. I quite enjoyed the other Sonic films so am very interested in this one too. Plus we get Keanu Reeves as Shadow. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will release on December 20th
A Complete Unknown: This is the newest film from James Mangold and is a biopic about Bob Dylan. This movie stars Timothee Chalamet, an actor that I like. I am also a fan of biopics. A Complete Unknown will be released on December 25th.
Nosferatu: This is the newest film from Robert Eggers and is a remake of the 1922 classic horror film. This is the only horror film of the latter half of the season and I am somewhat interested in a different kind of vampire story. Nosferatu will be released on December 25th.
Creature Commandos: This is the first TV show in the DCU. It is a suicide squad-style story and follows a group of superhumans as they go on missions for the military. This is essentially the kickoff to James Gun's DCU so I am very interested in what kind of a start it will be. Creature Commandos will be released sometime in December
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew: This is the newest show in the Star Wars universe and follows a group of kids who make a mysterious discovery that results in an adventure away from their world. This show has been described as The Goonies but Star Wars which I am on board for. Star Wars just hasn't had the best track record lately so I am a bit skeptical. Star Wars Skeleton Crew will release on Disney+ on December 3rd.
