This weekend, the space thriller I.S.S was released in theaters. I.S.S. takes place on the International Space Station and follows the interactions of the 6 astronauts from the US and Russia. When a war breaks out between the US and Russia on Earth, both groups on the space station receive orders to take over the I.S.S. by force and must choose between following orders or staying loyal to those on the ship. I didn't have super high expectations for this film but was just expecting a B-level space thriller.
Unfortunately, this movie was not very good. I didn't have very high expectations but this movie still managed to disappoint. Starting off, the initial premise was just really stupid. Apparently, both the US and Russia think that the I.S.S. is going to serve some sort of strategic advantage in the war. I'm not sure what advantage a six-man station that is 250 miles above the Earth is going to have but whatever. I could get past the dumb premise if the actual plot was thrilling and interesting. Unfortunately, it is not. I was hoping it was going to be this us vs them thriller with all sorts of paranoia but ultimately ends up just as a really slow burn story where nothing really happens. I also felt that many of the character arcs go to waste. The movie makes it seem like a character has been killed only to bring him back at the end of the movie to get killed like a minute later. The ending also just doesn't seem satisfying at all with the actions of one of the final characters making no sense at all. I think this movie had a good amount of potential if it leaned more into paranoia and tensions of the conflict. It could have been a great slow burn where tensions slowly build about the war on Earth until finally, someone snaps but just didn't do any of that.
Overall, this was just a disappointing movie that had a good idea but executed poorly. Sometimes a movie can be so dumb it is good but that is not the case here. To quote a character from Knives Out...
Sc0re: 4/10 Grade: D Recommendation: Skip It

Love the addition of the graphic at the end!
