Last Wednesday, the series finale of The Bad Batch aired on Disney+. This was the show's third season and follows Clone Force 99 as they remain on the run from the empire in the aftermath of The Clone Wars. I enjoyed the first two seasons of the show and with the cliffhanger at the end of season 2, I was interested to see how they would resolve the show.
I found this season to be just as good if not better than the last two seasons of the show. This season had a much more focused storyline where the last meandered in the middle with an adventure of the week episode, this season stayed focused on the clones rescuing Omega and taking down the research facility. No episode feels like a filler episode and each one moves the story forward. This season also does a great job of giving solid arcs to characters like Crosshair and Omega. We get to see Crosshair regain the relationship with the rest of his squad and get to see Omega grow up a bit and become more of a leader and hero. She transitions from being the one getting rescued, to being the one doing the rescuing. Another fun thing about this season was that it saw the return of Asajj Ventress from The Clone Wars. Granted, she only appeared in one episode but it was just fun to see her on screen again. The show also does a good job tying in to the rest of the franchise with Project Necromancer being a clear connection to Palpatine's return in Episode 9. Finally, I felt this season delivered a satisfying ending for the team as we finally see them get the rest they deserve.
The biggest issue I had with the show was that the middle group of episodes felt a bit slow at times. They still moved the story forward but they just got a little repetitive where the squad does something for a character to get some information in return. That plot gets used 3-4 times in the season. I also felt the ending was a bit rushed. In the second to last episode, I was unsure how the series would close out in the final episode. While the final episode did a decent job, adding another episode in between would have made the finale more effective.
Overall, this was another solid season of The Bad Batch that managed to effectively close out the show and cement it as one of the better Star Wars shows.
Score: 8/10 Grade: B+ Recommendation: Check it out
